چکیده

Background: We discuss the numerical solution of large scale nonlinear eigenvalue problems and frequency response problems that arise in the analysis, simulation and optimization of acoustic fields. We report about the cooperation with the company SFE in Berlin. We present the challenges in the current industrial problems and the state-of-the-art of current methods. Results: The difficulties that arise with current off-the-shelf methods are discussed and several industrial examples are presented. Conclusions: It is documented that industrial cooperation is by no means a one-way street of transfer from academia to industry but the challenges arising in industrial practice also lead to new mathematical questions which actually change the mathematical theory and methods.

Restarting iterative projection methods for Hermitian nonlinear eigenvalue problems with minmax property

In this work we present a new restart technique for iterative projection methods for nonlinear eigenvalue problems admitting minmax characterization of their eigenvalues. Our technique makes use of the minmax induced local enumeration of the eigenvalues in the inner iteration. In contrast to global numbering which requires including all the previously computed eigenvectors in the search subspac...

Nonlinear Modeling and Investigating the Nonlinear Effects on Frequency Response of Silicon Bulk-mode Ring Resonator

This paper presents a nonlinear analytical model for micromechanical silicon ring resonators with bulk-mode vibrations. A distributed element model has been developed to describe the dynamic behavior of the micromechanical ring resonator. This model shows the nonlinear effects in a silicon ring resonator focusing on the effect of large amplitudes around the resonance frequency, material and ele...

A Note on the Solutions of the Van der Pol and Duffing Equations Using a Linearisation Method

We present a novel application of the successive linearisation method to the classical Van der Pol and Duffing oscillator equations. By recasting the governing equations as nonlinear eigenvalue problems we obtain accurate values of the frequency and amplitude. We demonstrate that the proposed method can be used to obtain the limit cycle and bifurcation diagrams of the governing equations. Compa...

Application of the method of multiple scales for nonlinear vibration analysis of mechanical systems with dry and lubricated clearance joints

In this study, the method of multiple scales is used to perform a nonlinear vibration analysis of a mechanical system in two cases; with dry and lubricated clearance joints. In the dry contact case, the Lankarani-Nikravesh model is used to represent the contact force between the joined bodies. The surface elasticity is modeled as a nonlinear spring-damper element. Primary resonance is discussed...

The Waveguide Eigenvalue Problem and the Tensor Infinite Arnoldi Method

We present a new computational approach for a class of large-scale nonlinear eigenvalue problems (NEPs) that are nonlinear in the eigenvalue. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. We derive a new iterative algorithm for NEPs, the tensor infinite Arnoldi method (TIAR), which is applicable to a general class of NEPs, and we show how to specialize the algorithm to a specific NEP: the wavegui...
